POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Location: Department of Transportation Headquarters in Newington, CT Full Time, 40 hours per week Monday through Friday First Shift, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit Applicants must be available to travel
THE ROLE The Central Surveys section performs various functions, including: Performing mapping, field, and land survey duties Utilizing Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) system and other computer applications Preparing, revising, and editing property acquisition and release mapping Developing topographic mapping and Digital Terrain Models (DTM) Utilizing ArcGIS software for Geographic Information System (GIS) applications Operating survey field instruments Performing complex computations for survey control networks Performing related duties as required
As a Transportation Engineer Trainee (Land Surveyor), discover the chance to: Problem solve, recommend, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner Contribute to providing safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public Utilize computer aided design software (MicroStation) and other applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel Provide verbal and written communication to a diverse population Prioritize work and meet deadlines Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates Perform a wide variety of increasingly difficult duties as technical skills are acquired during course of training period Read, analyze, and interpret property records
