This position is based in Northbrook, Illinois. Remote work from certain states may be permitted in accordance with Astellas' Responsible Flexibility Guidelines. Candidates interested in remote work are encouraged to apply.

Purpose & Scope:

The Sr. Manager, Logistics Programs has the responsibility of overseeing and managing all trade compliance activities and requirements for the Northbrook region, taking proactive actions understanding all new regulations, Customs systems changes, new requirements and leading the implementation process.

The Senior Manager, Logistics Program has an active role on various regional or global projects-- making recommendations, providing insights, collaborates with various groups across Astellas: Legal, Regulatory, QA, Global Logistics, as well as various outside organizations, governmental agencies and customers.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Astellas' continued compliance with trade regulations and policies by maintaining a relationship with Astellas Corporate Risk Management, Regulatory and Legal or through guidance received from outside legal counsel specializing in international trade

  • Oversees all imports and export procedures and leads the implementation of new requirements or regulations and educating the rest of the team

  • Networks with other organizations to assure proper export classification, County of Origin, valuation, permits, licenses and other requirements to support export and import of drug products and drug substances

  • Acts as an expert and main contact for all Customs issues or questions -- helps with shipments releases, investigates any shipments on hold, leads the communication with the broker

  • Works with the legal counsel on US Customs annual reconciliations and monthly entries reviews

  • Acts as "window person" for facilitating all research and development imports from overseas through US Customs and Border Protection, FDA and USDA

  • Oversees the C-TPAT program -- provides training, ensures Astellas compliance, owns the C-TPAT SOP and procedures, works with Customs on program validation

  • Reviews and validates Transportation studies for new product launches/ new lanes/new transportation solutions

  • Works closely with the Regulatory team to ensure all State/ Manufacturer Licenses are in place and/or renewed according to deadlines and as serves as a main contact for all license related questions

Organizational Context:

This role reports to Director, Supply Chain Operation and is an individual contributor. The position requires extensive collaboration and partnering with global teams, as well working very closely with QA, Regulatory and Legal departments.

Requirements

Qualifications: Required

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in Logistics / Supply Chain

  • Technology savvy, proficient in SAP, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Strong knowledge of Good Distribution Practices, International Trade Laws and compliance, Serialization Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading projects and process changes as well as working with cross-functional teams

  • Strong business knowledge and experience to recognize and interpret business issues and opportunities, and recommend solutions based on analysis

  • The position requires influencing skills with cross functional teams and leaders without direct line-management authority

  • Strong interpersonal skills to explain and resolve strategic and technical issues

  • Ability to operate in a matrix environment and influence without authority

  • Is catalyst for change within the organization; conveys a sense of urgency while being flexible and responsive to changing business priorities

  • High level of intellectual curiosity, self-motivated to solve difficult issues, continually seeking ways to improve

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Experienced in a Pharmaceutical, Life Science or Medical Device environment, with prior work experience of commercial pharmaceutical logistics

  • Knowledge of business requirements in US, Canada and Latin America
